Barbados Launches iGuide for Doing Business

Participating in the launch are: Cleveland Thomas, Resident Coordinator a.i., Suzette Hudson, Senior Advisor-Investment Promotion, Caribbean Export, Kaye-Anne Brathwaite, CEO, Invest Barbados, Ian Richards, Economic Affairs officer, UNCTAD, Jannette Babb, Consultant and Dr. Damie Sinanan, Manager-Competitiveness and Export Promotion, Caribbean Export.
The United Nations Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean supported the launch of  Barbados' first online investment guide (iGuide).
The online tool, a one-stop repository for information and opportunities pertaining to doing business in the island, was conceptualized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the International Chamber of Commerce. It was facilitated in collaboration with the Caribbean Association of Investment promotions Agencies(CAIPRA) and the Caribbean Export Development Agency.
UN Resident Coordinator (ad interim), Cleveland Thomas, addressed the launch stating: "The guide being presented here today provides and excellent opportunity for Small Island Developing States  like Barbados, to attract the types of investment required to meet the ambitious goals  and targets set out in the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals." The comprehensive guide can be found at https://www.theiguides.org/public-docs/guides/barbados

UN Hosts Stakeholder Meetings to Support Design of  Caribbean Regional Spotlight Programme

UN Joint Programme to support Elimination of Family Violence in train for Grenada

The UN System for Barbados and the OECS has received initial endorsement  for a new joint programme which will see four agencies : UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women, PAHO/WHO and one associated agency, UNFPA, working to address legislative and policy gaps, while providing  institutional strengthening to promote gender equality, improve services for domestic violence survivors and ultimately contribute to the elimination of all forms of family violence in Grenada. Searching Safely: IAEA Organizes National Training Course to Facilitate the Recovery of Orphan Radioactive Sources in Barbados

Radioactive sources are considered to be ‘orphans’ if ever they are lost, abandoned, misplaced stolen or transferred without proper authorization. Orphan sources pose a risk to the public and the environment, which must be addressed by national nuclear regulators and operators, as well as by police, emergency responders and public health officials. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) are launching a regional communication and awareness campaign on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in disaster management in the Caribbean. Under the theme “Stronger Together”, the campaign aims to offer information and strategies to assist communities in the region in better coping with the psychological impact of adverse events before, during and after a disaster situation. Customized Cooperation: IAEA-CARICOM Member States to Develop First-Ever Regional Strategic Approach

Since 2012, nine Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have joined the IAEA. These countries share common needs and at the same time face unique challenges in adopting the use of nuclear technologies – owning to their small size and isolation. Responding to this need, a regional meeting was held from 26 to 30 August to draft a Regional Strategic Framework, which will support efforts to coordinate technical cooperation between the IAEA and members of CARICOM. MOZAMBIQUE: Man on a Mission – The Caribbean Impact

Over 6000 miles away, from the shores of the Caribbean, a young man, who was moved by the destruction and devastation in Mozambique answered the call to Surge. Randy Warner, a team member in the UNFPA Sub-regional Office for the Caribbean, based in Barbados, became one of the first UNFPA staff from the sub-region to provide a surge response in Africa.
